In the last couple of years, Chelsea Green has gotten over in WWE thanks to a ton of organic fan support, unlimited charisma, and great in-ring talent. It is a total flip from the way that she was booked in the company during her first run there. Green has been applauded by fans and wrestlers alike for what she is currently doing.

Chelsea Green is doing some of the best character work in all of WWE today. She was the inaugural WWE Women’s United States Champion, and The Green Regime, consisting of Green, Piper Niven, and Alba Fyre, are doing great. But WWE is not doing enough to help keep that momentum going.

She Was The First WWE Women’s United States Champion

Green’s return to WWE has seen her prove all of her doubters and detractors in the industry wrong. She has taken every opportunity that the company granted her and gave it 100%. In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, she spoke about Triple H’s call asking if she’d like to return to WWE. She said:

“Like, ‘Hey. Do you just want to come back and see where it goes? Or do you want to wait? And do you want us to give you a storyline? And do you have any ideas?’ I said, ‘I just want to come back. I don’t care what you do with me.’ Because at that point, I didn’t. I just wanted stability and to be back. And I knew that if they gave me the opportunity that I felt I deserved in the first run, I could prove [it] to them.” (h/t Wrestling Inc)

Green’s natural talent has allowed her to thrive in WWE. Even though she is a heel, she became a fan-favorite that people wanted to see succeed. To her credit, she has done well. She is a former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion. She was the first WWE Women’s US Champion and got her own faction. All of this happened because of how great she is. But, many times with her booking, it felt like WWE held back in their full commitment to making Green a main event level star.

Green’s run can be compared to that of her significant other, Matt Cardona. Formerly known as Zack Ryder, he was one of the first major examples of a superstar utilizing their online presence to affect what was going on with him in WWE. Around 2011, it was almost impossible to not hear chants for Zack Ryder. Eventually, WWE could not ignore them.

Cardona ended up winning the WWE US Title, and it felt like fans were being heard. But he immediately became an afterthought in storylines where he should have been a top player. He eventually lost the championship, he took the pinfall at WrestleMania 28, and fell to lower card status. In WWE, he never got a real chance to shine like the fans demanded. After years of floating through the lower card, he was released in 2020.

Chelsea Green Should Be Higher On The Card

Fans Have Rallied Behind The Former United States Champion

• Green has not won a TV match since losing her WWE Women’s US Title.
• She did not qualify for Money in the Bank.
• WWE cannot waste Chelsea Green’s momentum on SmackDown.

With Green losing the WWE Women’s US Championship to Zelina Vega, it felt like WWE could have been gearing up to give her a bigger push. Almost like it was a stepping stone to more prominent storylines on SmackDown. After all, who would not want to see Green feud with Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s Championship? That is a story that would be new and fresh for both of them. However, it seems like WWE is going in other directions.

Recently, Green lost a Money in the Bank qualifying match on SmackDown after she was pinned in a triple threat that involved Michin and Alexa Bliss. While fans are excited to see Bliss get back into the swing of things, it should not have come at Green’s expense, especially after she just had a run as WWE Women’s US Champion. The last thing that she needs is to endure loss after loss.

None of this is to say that Chelsea Green’s career is struggling in WWE by any means. She is doing great work in the company and is beloved by many fans. Her character work is on point, and she can do phenomenal things in the ring. This is something that has been showcased not only in WWE, but in other companies such as TNA, NWA, GCW, and the indies. She is a great talent and someone that people rally behind. Fans want to see Green succeed, and it is not too late at all for WWE to give her more high-profile opportunities on the card.
