Goldberg is finally gearing up for his last match—and this time, he’s not just stepping into the ring, he’s stepping into the creative room too.
During a recent interview with My San Antonio, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed that he’s been granted a level of authority over how his retirement match will be announced to the public. He’s not just letting WWE handle it behind the scenes—he’s actively involved in deciding how the big moment is going to unfold.
“I’ve been approved for some creative control of the rollout plans for the date’s announcement…”
That quote makes it clear Goldberg is closely collaborating with WWE. While he hasn’t named an opponent yet, he’s made it clear in past interviews that his retirement match will take place before the end of 2025—and now it sounds like he’s working behind the scenes to ensure the announcement lands just right.
Atlanta, Georgia is rumored to be the location for his final match, lining up with Ringside News’ earlier report. Internally, WWE is eyeing July 12 for Saturday Night’s Main Event—the same night AEW is set to run All In. It’s a strategic move that could set the stage for a major night in wrestling history.
Goldberg has been training at Black Diamond Martial Arts in Boerne, Texas to prepare for his swan song, and he’s been taking the process seriously.
“I feel a little bit better, I’ve gained a little bit of weight man. Done a little kickboxing on the weekends. I’m getting there man, I’ve got a little bit of time left. Slowly but surely, Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
He’s also staying focused and avoiding injuries, something he struggled with late in his WWE career.
“Believe me, it’s been really tough to control myself but I think I’m on a good schedule. I’m injury free as of right now.”
Mentally, Goldberg is treating this like a full rebuild—a start-from-scratch approach to make sure he’s in the best shape possible for one last impact.
“It’s like rebuilding a car. You’ve got to strip it down to the bare minimum and sequentially build it in a logical form… I can’t get overzealous and put shit on before it’s time. It’s a very slow process but I think the way I’m going about it is hopefully gonna work.”
WWE has yet to officially confirm the date or match, but sources say Goldberg has signed off on the creative and is ready for the final chapter. GUNTHER’s name continues to come up as the frontrunner for the match, especially after their tense faceoff at WWE Bad Blood.
Goldberg’s retirement isn’t just another sendoff—it’s a carefully calculated farewell being built exactly how he wants it, from the ground up.
