Trish Stratus Explains Why Romance Angle With Jeff Hardy Was Scrapped

Trish Stratus has worked with several top stars during her time in WWE and that included even Jeff Hardy. The two even had a brief romantic angle but it was ultimately scrapped, and she has now explained why the storyline was short-lived.

While speaking to Hot 97.5, Trish Stratus confirmed that WWE had plans for a romance storyline between her and Jeff Hardy, but it ended early because she broke her ankle. Stratus noted that the idea was to mix things up from the usual Trish and Lita pairing by bringing in Matt and Jeff Hardy.

Trish Stratus said they were excited about it and looking forward to doing cool tag team matches together. Sadly, after Trish Stratus got hurt, the storyline stopped. By the time she healed, things had moved on, and they never got a chance to go back to it.

“Then it got cut short. I was like, ‘Wait, what?’ It was short. He never did the thing, which obviously was always Trish and Lita. Trish and Lita—that is the thing right there.

But then like, oh, Trish and Lita with a spin? Let’s go Matt and Jeff. And I was like, okay. So we were exploring that, and we were excited because then we’re looking for tag matches, like the stuff we could have done. So epic.

I—I broke my ankle. Yes. That happened, and it just got halted. And we never, you know—at that point, everyone evolves and things move on, so we never revisited it.”

Trish Stratus said that time was important for her because the women were finally getting more time in the ring and starting to grow as stars. The pro wrestling legend felt like doing tag matches with the guys back then, since intergender matches were still allowed and would have been a fun and different way to show off their characters.

“I was actually—that was one of my good moments, because I just knew that, like, you know, we were given a little bit more ring time at that point. We were starting to come into our own as the women on the show.

And I thought, now taking the women and putting them in this unique scenario—having the tag teaming—which back in the day, you know, now we don’t have the intergender—so being able to do that would have been such a great way to present the characters differently.”

The canceled romance storyline between Jeff Hardy and Trish Stratus remains one of those “what if” moments in WWE history. Both were really popular at the time and seemed to have real chemistry, so the angle had the potential to be something special. Regardless, what’s done is done, and fans have come to accept that it just wasn’t meant to be.
