WWE releases are unfortunately commonplace at this point, with the company regularly cutting talent for various reasons, from budget cuts to talent causing problems or creative simply not having any ideas for them. Most of the time, when WWE cuts talent, fans aren’t surprised because the wrestlers involved are often rarely used.

The Origins Of The Imaginary WWE Character “Little Jimmy”, Explained
One of the weirdest gimmicks in the last decade of WWE is R-Truth and his imaginary friend, Little Jimmy.
However, the recent bombshell that R-Truth has been let go by WWE has taken fans by complete surprise. The veteran performer confirmed via social media that he has been released by the company, and while he’s not one of WWE’s top stars, this decision feels completely left-field, with the circumstances surrounding it being downright disrespectful.
WWE Releasing R-Truth Makes No Sense
He Still Had Plenty To Offer WWE
- Truth can still hold his own inside the ring
- He’s a talent who can be thrown into any storyline at all points on the card
- His knowledge would’ve been useful for younger talent
Every WWE release is upsetting because people losing their jobs isn’t a positive situation. However, wrestling is a business, and it does make sense when talent who aren’t being used gets cut by the company. But that isn’t the case with R-Truth, as he’s always had a place on WWE television, including recently when he’s been prominently used against one of WWE’s biggest stars.
R-Truth has just wrapped up a storyline against John Cena, which culminated in them having a singles match at WWE’s Saturday Night Main Event. While it may only have been a brief angle, it proved that fans still take Truth seriously and that he has a lot to offer the business working at the top end of the card as fans care about him as a talent.
Triple H has frequently used the multi-time 24/7 Champion, including his memorable feud against The Judgment Day. Therefore, the leadership change didn’t impact his position. Truth is arguably the funniest wrestler in WWE history and is easy to plug into any segment or match. Therefore, it isn’t hard to make creative decisions for him, which is why this release makes no sense to many people.
WWE’s Release Decision Is One Of The Most Surprising To Date
R-Truth Recently Main Evented A Major Show
- R-Truth had just finished a feud with John Cena.
- Truth has been used regularly by Triple H.
- He’s one of WWE’s most entertaining talents.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, R-Truth’s contract has come to an end, and WWE is opting not to renew it, but that makes the decision to push him into a major storyline with Cena even more baffling. WWE gave fans every reason to invest in R-Truth, so the WWE Universe believed he was going nowhere.

If the company had planned this decision, it would’ve made more sense to have put his career on the line against Cena. That would’ve allowed R-Truth to have a big goodbye and Cena to benefit by gaining real heat. Instead, the timing of the cut has ended up being so strange that it only casts WWE in a negative light.
While he might be winding down inside the ring, R-Truth still had lots to offer, and he proved that regularly. It makes this particular move feel very calculated and lacking in respect.

WWE is a business, which is why talent are cut at times. However, there are certain people fans see as ‘lifers’ who will never be released and have earned the right to a full-time contract until they want to hang their boots up, and R-Truth was one of those people. After so many years of service, titles won, and memories created, the last thing people were expecting was for him to be released.
Truth is the type of talent who deserved to be kept around to give a big retirement speech before an eventual Hall of Fame induction. Instead, he’s been cast aside at a moment when the WWE Universe was showcasing how much love they had for him. The potential was there for WWE to use Truth a lot in the coming months, but instead, a cold business decision was made that has led to a feeling that the company doesn’t care at all about its talent.
