The Rock and Roman Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40 Saturday and The Great One trained with Gallus to prepare for his in-ring return. With that in mind, Gallus actually thought they were getting ribbed when they were told they would train The Rock.
While speaking to MuscleManMalcolm, Joe Coffey revealed that Gallus initially thought it was a rib when they were told they’d be training The Rock for WrestleMania 40. He recalled sitting in the gym with Mark Coffey when they got the news.
Coffey said his parents had just arrived the night before for a ten-day visit, and the plan that day was to get in a quick workout before heading to the Performance Center for strength and conditioning training.
“I mean it was—it was a crazy situation to be in. I remember, uhh, myself and Mark were sitting in the gym. My parents had just come over to visit, um, for like 10 days and they had arrived the night—the night before. So we’re sitting in the gym, we’re going to go in the PC, we’re getting our workout out the way, and then we’re going to go in the PC and do the—the—the PC strength and conditioning work.”
While they were at the gym, they received a message from Matt Bloom, telling them to pack their bags because they were going to train The Rock. Given their friendly relationship with Bloom, they assumed he was ribbing them.
“And we got a text from Matt Bloom, the—the head of the PC—uh, ‘Hey guys, pack your bags, you’re going to train The Rock for WrestleMania.’ And we’ve got a good relationship with Matt Bloom. I was like, he’s just—what is he talking about? He’s just ribbing us.”
At first, Coffey didn’t believe it, thinking there was no way it could be true. He was also frustrated because he had just spent around $600 on Universal Studios tickets for himself, Mark, his parents, and his girlfriend at the time. He knew he wouldn’t get a refund.
They decided to reply to Bloom to check if he was serious, and to their surprise he confirmed it wasn’t a rib. Therefore, they wrapped up their session, went home, and packed their bags.
“So I was like, nah, surely not. But my initial reaction—I was like, no, that—that—that can’t be right. But at the time I was going to take my folks to Universal and I’d literally bought like $600 worth of tickets for like me, Mark, my—my mom and dad, uh, and my missus at the time. I was like, I’ve just spent $600 and I’m—I’m not going to get this—this refund. Typical Scottish mentality.
But then, so we text Matt back and go, ‘Is this a rib?’ He like, ‘No, no, we’re serious.’ I was like, oh. So we finished our session, went and packed our bags.”
The Rock sent Gallus a special gift for helping him train for his in-ring return. Regardless, fans will always feel Gallus truly helped The Rock get into the best in-ring shape possible for WrestleMania 40 and no one can take it away from them.
