Charlotte Flair Admits She and Ronda Rousey Beat Each Other Up at Survivor Series 2018

Charlotte Flair faced off against Ronda Rousey at the 2018 Survivor Series event in one of the most memorable matches of either woman’s career. As it turns out, both of them legitimately beat each other up during the match.

While speaking to Games with Names, Charlotte Flair talked about her match with Ronda Rousey at Survivor Series 2018. She said it was such a hard-hitting match that even now whenever she gets hit in the ring, she remembers that night and thinks, “Oh man, I still owe her for that.” She joked that she probably owed Ronda Rousey her paycheck that year because of how intense it was.

“We were beating the s*** out of each other. Anytime I get hit, I just keep thinking of that night where I’m like, ‘Oh man, I really still owe her.’ Like, ‘Oh, this is not good.’ I really owe her my paycheck that year.”

Flair said one of her favorite moments was when she shoved Ronda and made her fall on her butt. Charlotte said no one had ever seen Ronda look that vulnerable before. It wasn’t planned, she just did it in the moment, which made it feel real.

“I loved when I pushed her and she landed on her butt—no one had seen Ronda vulnerable like that before. And that was kind of on the fly. Like, I didn’t say, ‘Hey, I’m going to shove you this hard.’ I just shoved her that hard. So it was so organic and real.”

Earlier in the match, Charlotte Flair hit Rousey with her elbow by accident and made her bleed. She said it wasn’t on purpose and felt bad, but stuff like that happens in wrestling. Flair said wrestlers often apologise if things go wrong, but it’s not always discussed it’s just understood.

Flair also said that Ronda once told a friend that if she stiffed Flair, she knew Flair would hit her back. Charlotte said that kind of trust happens with some wrestlers, especially friends. You can be more physical because you trust each other.

“We had an elbow earlier in that match that drew blood too, so I mean, there was blood in the ring. Yeah, I was like, ‘Oh man, sorry about that.’ That was just an unlucky shot. You go in apologizing—’Hey, I’m sorry I’m going to—’ Yeah, yeah. It’s unspoken. It’s unspoken.

Well, she told a friend of mine, who was also a talent—she was like, ‘Well, I just know if I’m going to stiff Charlotte, she’s going to stiff me back.’ Like, meaning, if you hit too hard. But I think that’s it. You just have that rapport with certain people—like, you hit your friends harder.”

Ronda Rousey isn’t part of WWE anymore but her match with Charlotte Flair will go down as one of the hardest-hitting women’s matches in WWE history. Both women are proud of the match and that’s never changing.
