Becky Lynch Reveals How She Lost Two Teeth and Lived with Addicts in Her Early U.S. Struggle

Becky Lynch’s journey to the U.S. is nothing short of a movie and fans always love it when she tells stories about her life. This time around, Lynch has revealed how she lost some teeth after coming to the U.S. and why she hasn’t fixed them all yet.

While speaking on the Are You Garbage podcast, Becky Lynch was asked if she ever got the root canal finished. She said she did, but also ended up having a tooth removed. She explained she’s actually missing a tooth in the back or rather, two teeth, and never got them replaced.

“I did. I did. I did. I got one removed too. So what happened was I went in — yeah, I’m actually missing a tooth in the back. Wait, did I get it replaced? No, it’s still missing. Actually I’m missing two. Oh look. Yeah, but you gotta go one there.”

Lynch explained how it all started when she moved to New York at 23 with only two thousand dollars, thinking it would last the whole summer. It ran out in just two days, so she ended up staying in a hostel near Columbus Circle.

While looking for a job, she went into a bar called Shades of Green on 14th Street. They didn’t have work for her but offered her a drink. After talking with the owner and telling him about the hostel, he said she could rent a tiny room upstairs.

Lynch noted that it was small, just a bed and a sink, with a bathroom down the hall that she shared with some people who might have been addicts. They would come back at all hours of the night, sometimes fighting.

One night she got a really bad toothache and couldn’t sleep. The dentist next door said she needed either a root canal or to have it pulled. Since she didn’t have money, they pulled it and that was the first tooth gone. Later on, the same thing happened, so she lost another tooth. Over time, her teeth moved closer together.

“So what happened was, one of them — I moved to New York when I was 23. Came over with like two grand in my bank account, thought, ‘That’ll do me for the summer.’ Lasted me two days. Was living in a hostel up by Columbus Circle.

There was this little bar in New York called Shades of Green on 14th Street. I went in there looking for a job. Asked, ‘Do you have a job?’ They said, ‘No.’ I was like, ‘Ah, s***.’ They go, ‘Well, do you wanna stay and have a drink?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, hit me.’

Started talking to the owner. They asked where I was staying, I told them the hostel, $35 a night. They said, ‘Well we’ve got a room upstairs, maybe you wanna stay there?’ These were Irish fellas. So I ended up staying in this tiny room, about the size of this table, just a bed and a sink. Bathroom down the hall, shared with these… drug addicts. They’d come back at all hours, fights, everything.

Anyway, one day I got this awful tooth pain. Couldn’t sleep. Went to the dentist right next door. They said, ‘We’ll have to either root canal it or take it out.’ Didn’t have any money, so — out it comes. That was tooth number one. Same thing happened again later. That one’s gone too. Now my teeth have kind of closed in.”

Then in Orlando, Big Time Becks had tooth pain again and this time on the top, but the dentist thought it was from the bottom. They asked if she wanted a root canal or to have it pulled.

Because she still didn’t have much money, she had it pulled. It turned out the problem was actually on top. Not wanting to lose a third tooth, she finally got a root canal. She had to borrow money from her mom to pay for it and right after that, her car broke down. All this happened in just her first four months in America and she joked that this was her “American dream.”

Now Lynch made it clear she’s happy with her life, but still hasn’t gotten that missing tooth fixed. She even went to see a dentist who explained how they could do it while she was awake or put her to sleep. She told herself she could be brave, but never went back. She knows she still needs to do it and says she can be brave one day.

“Then in Orlando — it all comes back to Orlando — I had this tooth pain on top, they thought it was coming from the bottom. They’re like, ‘Root canal or yank it?’ Didn’t have much money, so okay, yank it. Turns out it was actually from the top. Great. Didn’t wanna be missing three teeth, so then I finally got the root canal. Had to borrow money from my ma — thank god she lent it to me. And right after that, my car blew up.

This was like four months into moving over here. I was like, ‘Oh, the American dream.’ Now? I’m loving it. I still haven’t gotten that tooth though. I went to a place, the dentist was explaining if they’d do it while I was awake or put me under. I thought, ‘I can be brave, I can be brave.’ And then… I never went back. I still need to go. Sure. I can be brave.”

Becky Lynch has talked a lot about her life in her book but stories such as her missing teeth weren’t necessarily mentioned there, so fans are glad to see that The Man still has lots of wild stories to share from time to time.
