WWE Can Replicate This Iconic Storyline To Build A New Main Eventer

There have been several storylines that WWE have copied or paid homage to over the years, repeating a tried and tested formula to help build stars. One of the most iconic was Batista’s turn against Triple H and Ric Flair, breaking free of the Evolution faction – and it is one that WWE must run again in the present day. WWE has several established main event guys in the company right now, but there is always room to build the younger names into top stars, and there is an opportunity for WWE to pull the trigger on a Batista-like push for one promising prospect – Bron Breakker.

Batista Turned On Triple H In An Iconic Moment

Evolution’s Breakup Was Masterful WWE Storytelling

  • Batista turned babyface on Raw in 2005
  • WWE planted the seeds for this turn months in advance
  • Batista was red-hot when WWE pulled the trigger on his turn

On the Road to WrestleMania 21, Batista was beginning to gain momentum due to his larger-than-life aura and natural ability, all leading to a star-making Royal Rumble victory. At the time, Batista was a member of the Evolution faction, led by World Heavyweight Champion Triple H. Previously, Randy Orton had been kicked out of the group due to winning the World Heavyweight Title – something Triple H did not take kindly to. It felt inevitable that at some point Batista would find himself surplus to requirements, but he got ahead of the ball. Triple H and Ric Flair had been conniving and plotting under the surface – though Batista was well aware of their actions, proving himself to be more intelligent than the empty-headed muscle man that the other two were painting him out to be.

WWE Must Make This Brand Switch Immediately

WWE needs to make this big trade between the Raw and SmackDown rosters to payoff some big storylines.

When the time came for Batista to choose whether he’d challenge for the World Heavyweight Title or WWE Championship at WrestleMania, Triple H tried to keep him under his thumb and safe from the threat of his faction member by pushing him towards the WWE Title. In an iconic moment, Batista issued a goosebump-inducing “thumbs down” to Triple H, before taking out both him and Flair, breaking free of the faction and striking out on his own. Fans loved seeing Batista stand up to the control freak and power-hungry Triple H, and this cemented him immediately as a top babyface in WWE. He would remain a main event star throughout the rest of his wrestling career, showcasing just how powerful and impactful this angle and turn was.

Seth Rollins & Bron Breakker Can Recreate This Angle

  • Rollins is currently leading his own faction in WWE
  • Breakker is one of WWE’s hottest young prospects
  • WWE should follow the same formula as they did with Batista

On the RAW after WrestleMania 41, Bron Breakker joined forces with Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman, enlisting alongside the veteran worker in a group that would soon become known as The Oracle, also involving Bronson Reed. Over the years, Seth Rollins has had many comparisons to Triple H, much of this due to him being taken under The Game’s wing in 2015 as The Authority’s golden child, winning world titles, inheriting The Pedigree, and being presented as someone who is smarter than most – Rollins is “The Architect”, Triple H is the “Cerebral Assassin”.

Solo Sikoa Is Finally Breaking Out As The Star WWE Wanted

After a failed attempt at a main event push in 2024, Solo Sikoa is now starting to shine as a bona fide superstar.

Much like how WWE pushed Batista as someone who was too good to be held back, the same can be done with Bron Breakker. Whether it be this year or next, Seth Rollins can reign as the World Heavyweight Champion, desperate to latch onto his power at the top of the card, all the while fans rally more and more behind Breakker, who is effortlessly cool and badass – someone fans can’t help but cheer for, regardless of whether he’s heel or babyface. Eventually, Breakker can either get “too big for his boots” and get turned against by Rollins, or else break free from the control of the main event heel. It seems as though WWE is in fact going in this direction, with a report coming out from Bodyslam.net that Breakker will eventually turn on Rollins, though it is said to be a “long way off”.

  • Rollins and Triple H were known as methodical characters
  • Breakker and Batista are both popular and have natural ability
  • This storyline will work when WWE decides to go down that route

As noted, Rollins and Triple H each have similarities – as do Batista and Bron Breakker. They are young, hot, and hungry animals who have a legitimate badass aura that fans latch on to. It has been twenty years since WWE ran this angle, so doing so in a very similar manner wouldn’t feel forced or like a copy, and it would be welcome from fans for sure. Rollins abusing Breakker, using him to do his dirty work, and talking down to him will continue that support growing and building, much like it did for Batista.
