WWE Fans Roast Tony Hinchcliffe Following Guest Commentary Cameo On Raw

Summary

  • Tony Hinchcliffe was a guest announcer on Raw this week, calling the action for a tag team match.
  • His performance has been roasted by fans since who are wondering why he was a part of the show at all.
  • A joke Hinchcliffe made about Big E’s neck was a particularly low point for the comedian.

WWE brought in some guest stars on Raw this week to co-promote other shows on Netflix as well as its Roast Of WrestleMania, a WrestleMania post-show it will be staging after its biggest show of the year for the first time in less than two weeks. Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe was one of those guest stars, and his brief appearance on Raw seems to have done more harm than good.

WWE Fans Unimpressed With Tony Hinchcliffe’s Announcing Prowess

Hinchcliffe will be the host of the Roast of WrestleMania later this month, and to promote the event, and maybe introduce him to wrestling fans who aren’t familiar with his work, WWE brought him in to help call a match. Hinchcliffe joined Pat McAfee and Michael Cole at the announce desk for New Day’s match against The Viking Raiders, and I can’t imagine his performance has convinced many fans to pick up tickets for the post-WrestleMania show.

Triple H Reveals Amount Of Netflix Input Into WWE Raw’s Creative Direction

Triple H spoke with the BBC about how much creative input Netflix has in Monday Night Raw and what parts of the program they influence.

Twitter is a sea of fans wondering why Hinchcliffe is calling a match on Raw right now, from those annoyed they’re being forced to watch a match on mute, to others pointing out a controversial joke he made not that long ago during a political rally. Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage” while speaking at a rally, hence quite a few wrestling fans being put off before he’d even had the chance to speak on Raw.

Hinchcliffe Made A Joke In Poor Taste About Big E On Raw

Hinchcliffe doesn’t appear to have won many people over once he started speaking either. The comedian warmed up with a couple of jokes about Cole being old before trying to help Cole and McAfee call the action in the ring. Suffice to say, he probably won’t be the third man in the booth on a regular basis, and maybe not ever again if WWE has been monitoring reactions to his appearance on social media.

Aside from Hinchcliffe’s poor performance as a whole, the moment that appears to have upset fans most is when the comedian made a poor-taste joke about Big E. “The only thing stiffer than Michael Cole is Big E’s neck,” were Hinchcliffe’s exact words. E broke his neck in a match with Ridge Holland and has been unable to wrestle since.

Bert Kreischer was also a guest on Raw this week, and he played a far bigger role on the show. Kreischer helped out American Made and then reappeared after the show went off the air to help CM Punk deal with Grayson Waller and Austin Theory. Kreischer’s involvement doesn’t appear to have gone down quite as poorly as Hinchcliffe’s, but it also hasn’t exactly been celebrated by fans.
