Lex Luger, an icon from both WWE and WCW, is officially joining the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2025. Known for his dominant runs across multiple promotions, Luger’s induction recognizes his remarkable career, which multiple championship reigns and iconic moments have highlighted.

Luger’s Popularity In His Prime Years Was Undeniable

A three-time world champion and a record-setting five-time United States Heavyweight Champion, Luger a big piece of WCW’s early days and then WWE as the Monday Night Wars dominated the industry. WWE writes in their announcement, “Lex Luger went by many names whether he was in NWA, WCW or WWE, including The Total Package and The All-American, and now you can call him a WWE Hall of Famer.”

It was Cody Rhodes who surprised Luger with news of his induction while he was working out with Diamond Dallas Page. Despite facing personal and health struggles after retirement — and playing a role in the unfortunate death of Miss Elizabeth — Luger has dedicated himself to rebuilding his life, working alongside DDP to promote wellness. WWE shared a heartwarming video of The American Nightmare personally delivering the Hall of Fame news to Luger.

Luger Was A Pivotal Piece In The WWE And WCW Wars

After establishing himself as a powerhouse in WCW, he transitioned to WWE in the early 1990s, where he took on the persona of “The All-American.” His most famous WWE moment came on July 4, 1993, when he bodyslammed Yokozuna on the USS Intrepid, launching the patriotic “Lex Express” campaign. Unexpectedly, WWE lost Luger to WCW when his contract expired and he showed up on the debut episode of Monday Night Nitro. It was a huge moment in the ratings war between the two companies and set the tone for what would be a brutal battle over 83 weeks.

His second WCW World Title win came in 1997 when he defeated “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan, a moment that remains one of the most memorable victories of his career.

Luger’s induction during WrestleMania 41 week in Paradise, Nevada, cements his legacy as one of wrestling’s most important performers. Making the induction even more touching is the story of his fall from grace and redemption story as he continues to inspire fans and change his life for the better.
