Jonathan Coachman had been part of the WWE family for several years and he’s aware of how the company functioned during his time there. However, that doesn’t mean he liked everything about WWE and he has now admitted that he would never accept a WWE Hall of Fame induction.
While speaking on the Behind the Turnbuckle podcast, Jonathan Coachman explained why he would never accept a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame. Coachman said there’s no real Hall of Fame building, it’s just a made-up event that happens on a Friday night. While it might mean something to fans, he thinks the whole thing doesn’t feel genuine anymore.
Coachman said he respects legends like Booker T and the Dudley Boyz, who truly earned their spots. But he feels that sometimes WWE adds people just to fill certain roles, like having a female wrestler, a tag team, or someone with star power instead of choosing based on what someone actually accomplished.
Coachman also pointed out how WWE even made a Hall of Fame match category this year, just to get big names like Bret Hart and Steve Austin involved. To him, it felt more like they were trying to make another show instead of honoring people properly. Because of all that, he said he wouldn’t accept a Hall of Fame induction.
“People have asked me, ‘Coach, would you accept a Hall of Fame nomination?’ And I said, ‘First of all, there’s not a brick-and-mortar Hall of Fame. It’s just a made-up night, uh, on a Friday night.’ It’s in our heart, folks. I know. But then I say, look at some of the people that have been inducted without naming names because I do feel like I don’t want to disrespect the guys.
They’ve got the rings, the Booker T’s and the Dudley Boyz, and they’ve earned that. But you have, for example, this weekend, there were some that you’re like, really? And to me, they’re checking a box. All right, we got to have a female. We got to have a tag team. We got to have this. And then when they didn’t have enough star power, they created, oh, a Hall of Fame match now so we can get Bret Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin.
So, it’s almost like they’re still putting together a show in what should be just, you’ve earned it. Come out here. Congratulations. So, they’re even manipulating that, in my opinion. That’s why I don’t think I would ever accept it.”
Coachman also confirmed that he has no intention of returning to WWE again and fans can understand why, considering how things turned out for him during his last couple of stints in WWE. Regardless, Coachman made it clear why he will never accept a WWE Hall of Fame induction and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
