“I Was Lost And I Didn’t Have Anyone To Guide Me” An Injury Ended Becky Lynch’s Career For Seven Years

After a long hiatus, Becky Lynch returned to WWE at WrestleMania 41, where she teamed up with Lyra Valkyria as her surprise partner to defeat Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez for the Women’s Tag Team Championships. However, Lynch quickly turned heel, attacking the Women’s Intercontinental Champion after they lost the titles on the following Raw. Valkyria then beat Becky Lynch at Backlash as The Man is doing her best to build up Lyra into the next big star of the women’s division. The long time away from WWE has made this new run feel fresh, but it wasn’t her longest time away from wrestling. Early in her career, an injury and the emotional impact of its aftermath forced Becky Lynch to step away for seven years.

Becky Lynch was just 19 when, in September 2006, she suffered a head injury during a match that was so bad it injured a cranial nerve. It not only left her physically unable to compete but wrecked her mentally. During an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani last year, Lynch said:

“I was lost and I didn’t have anyone to guide me. I didn’t have any guidance. Who was going to guide me? My mom didn’t know anything about wrestling. My dad didn’t know anything about wrestling. I didn’t have any role models that were able to take me under their wing and be like, ‘Oh, it’s all gonna be okay,’ you know, because I didn’t know and so I left wrestling for seven years.” (h/t 411 Mania)

Becky Lynch Returned To Wrestling In NXT

Becky Lynch returned to wrestling in 2013 when she was signed by WWE to be part of NXT. After an embarrassing start, she became part of The Four Horsewomen and is now arguably the greatest women’s wrestler of all-time.

On the most recent Raw, Becky Lynch said to the crowd:

“Do you want to know why I walked away from this for almost a year? Because you asked me to.”

Lynch spoke of needing to take a break because fans were getting sick of her. Thankfully, just like she did in 2013 after seven years away, Becky Lynch came back, and she’s better than ever.
